Air Taxi Configuration
To avoid local emissions and enable sustainable urban flight, SkyCab uses a fully electric approach powered by rechargeable batteries. Its vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability allows flexible operation within cities, enabling direct connections between key locations.
During development, multiple concepts were evaluated based not only on performance but also on criteria like passenger comfort and safety. SkyCab aims for a 100 km range and a cruise speed of 240 km/h, offering a time advantage over traditional transport. This performance exceeds the capabilities of typical multicopters, which are efficient in hover but not suitable for high-speed cruise.
Instead, a Lift + Cruise configuration is used—essentially a fixed-wing aircraft with additional propulsion for vertical flight. While this setup increases drag due to unused vertical flight components during cruise, it offers key benefits: separate, redundant systems for each flight phase, optimized performance for both hover and cruise, and reduced mechanical complexity, as no rotating propellers are required.
